Dental Crowns

A crown, also known as a dental cap, can be used to protect a weak tooth, restore a broken tooth, cover and support a tooth with a large restoration where there isn’t a lot of tooth structure left, hold a dental bridge in place, cover a dental implant, protect a tooth that has undergone root canal treatment, cover a severely discolored tooth, or to make a cosmetic modification. This type of restoration can be a great alternative to extraction since crowns strengthen, restore and improve the appearance of natural teeth.

The process of placing a crown is fairly easy. After the damaged tooth has been carefully prepared, your dentist will simply place the tooth-like covering over your natural tooth. The cap will then support the remaining tooth structure and provide a cover to protect the natural tooth from cavities, decay or further damage. Crowns can even be attached to bridges and dentures.

At Monterey Peninsula Dental Group, it is important to us that you are part of the process, so you can make a well-informed decision and be completely satisfied with the outcome. A permanent crown can be made out of many different materials. Our office offers gold crowns, all-ceramic crown (no metal) and porcelain-fused-to-gold crowns. Your dentist will thoroughly examine your case and discuss your options with you, so you can select the best material for your individual crown.

What Methods of Crown Fabrication Does MPDG Offer?

We offer traditional impression crowns as well as state-of-the-art CEREC milled crowns. Your doctor will evaluate which type of crown will work best depending on your unique needs.

How Can a Same Day Smile treatment accelerate the process of getting a dental crown?

Traditionally, the process of placing a crown involves using a temporary crown while the permanent crown is created in a dental lab. For patients who need to have a crown completed more quickly or don’t have the time to schedule multiple office visits for a crown, we offer a Same Day Smile treatment. Our highly trained doctors create and complete your dental crown in a single visit, eliminating the need for the placement of a temporary crown.

If you’re interested in our same day smile treatment, contact our office to inquire about the availability of this treatment.

What technology is used in creating crowns?

We’re proud to offer CEREC crowns, which are created in our office using the best technology and help patients receive a strong, permanent crown quickly.
