Dr. Lloyd Nattkemper attended the University of California at San Francisco, and received a B.S. in Dentistry and D.D.S. in 1983.  He subsequently completed residencies in general practice and periodontics at the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration Medical Center.  He maintains a private practice limited to periodontics and implant surgery in Monterey, California.  From the time he established his practice, Dr. Nattkemper has devoted himself to providing the most comfortable, predictable and esthetic periodontal treatment possible; he incorporated the dental operating microscope into his practice in 1995 to help make this a daily reality.  He counts among his mentors Drs. Dennis Shanelec, Peter Nordland, Kirk Pasquinelli and Dennis Smiler.

Dr. Nattkemper has made educating others a part of his profession since first beginning practice.  He has taught as an assistant clinical professor at the University of Pacific School of Dentistry from 1986 until 1995, and as a clinical instructor in the Dental Hygiene School at Cabrillo College in Aptos, California since 1995.

Dr. Nattkemper participates actively in dental professional organizations.  He has served on the board of the Monterey Bay Dental Society for the past twelve years, chaired the Society's Give Kids A Smile event for the past three years, and is active in the California Society of Periodontists, Academy of Microscope Enhanced Dentistry, International Congress of Oral Implantologists and American Academy of Periodontology.  He is an assistant editor for Vision, AMED's newsletter.  He was elected "Dentist of the Year" by his dental society in 2003 for his work on Give Kids A Smile.  He is serving as President of the Monterey Bay Dental Society, 2005-2006.
