Lloyd Nattkemper is a California native, growing up in Southern California. He attended college at the University of Californa at Irvine and received his dental training at U.C. San Francisco, where he received both a bachelor's and doctoral degree in dentistry in 1983. He was elected into membership of Omichron Kappa Upsilon www.oku.org/ upon graduation, and received the American College of Dentists' award for exemplary professionalism. He subsequently completed residencies in general practice and periodontics at the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration Medical Center, while attending classes and teaching at U.C.L.A. School of Dentistry. He maintains a private practice limited to periodontics, periodontal plastic surgery and implant surgery in Monterey, California. From the time he established his practice, Dr. Nattkemper has devoted himself to providing the most comfortable, predictable and esthetic periodontal treatment possible; he incorporated the dental operating microscope into his practice in 1995 to help make this a daily reality. He counts among his mentors Drs. Dennis Shanelec, Peter Nordland, Kirk Pasquinelli, Dennis Smiler and Ray Yukna.

Dr. Nattkemper has made educating others a part of his profession since first beginning practice. He taught as an assistant clinical professor at the University of Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry www.dental.uop.edu from 1986 until 1995, and has taught as clinical instructor in the Dental Hygiene School at Cabrillo College in Aptos, Californa www.cabrillo.edu/academics/dentalhygiene/ since 1995. In addition, he has served on the faculty of the Newport Coast Oral Facial Institute in Newport Beach, California www.ncofi.org/ as an instructor in use of the dental operating microscope since 2005.

Dr. Nattkemper participates actively in several professional dental organizations. He has served on the board of the Monterey Bay Dental Society for the past seventeen years, chaired the Society's Give Kids A Smile event for three years, and is currently serving as editor of the Monterey Bay Dental Society's newsletter, the Monterey Bay SmileLine. Dr. Nattkemper is an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology www.perio.org/ , California Society of Periodontists www.calperio.org/ , Academy of Microscope Enhanced Dentistry www.microscopedentistry.com/ , the Periodontal Plastic Surgery Study Club and the Academy of Laser Dentistry www.laserdentistry.org/ . He is a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists www.icoi.org/ . He was elected "Dentist of the Year" by his dental society in 2003 for his work on Give Kids A Smile, and served as President of the Monterey Bay Dental Society in 2005-2006.
